Florida Ice

I have never shot ice before, so I braved the frigid temp and went to a nursery where they run the sprinklers all night to try and save their crops when it gets below freezing. Turned out to be a bit more challenging than I thought, with my fingers freezing and dodging sprinklers.

This was shot on auto except that I had to reduce compensation a good amount so the whites wouldnt wash out, and thank you for the comments.

I'm completely new to the world of dSLR. In fact, I'm completely new to the world of SLR period, so needless to say I'm full of "stupid" questions (please bear with me). I'm trying to better understand what other photographers are thinking when they line themselves up for a shot. When you took this picture, were you shooting in full manual mode, or had you given priority to either aperature or shutter speed? Or none of the above?

Absolutely stunning image. What light! What mist! I'm besides myself.
